The Problem: Obtaining a SBA loan has many obstacles. We provide an integrated solution but the user experience is clunky, often fails, and takes too long. A streamlined experience is needed to improve outcomes.
The Goal: Decrease the time-to-loan decisioning in order to successfully close loans faster.
Discovery
To really understand the problem and SBA landscape, we interviewed many users and industry experts procuring insights.
Working with PMs and Devs, we constructed a plan of attack with requirements and use cases.
Utilizing AI to synthesize all our research data to build a problem statement.
Empathy
Through a series of user group workshops, we built our understanding of the user pain points and their needs/wants.
Solutions
With the user group, we mapped an ideal workflow which led to the creation of wireframes used to capture valuable feedback and validate layout decisions.
Designs
Using our design system, we created mock-ups to show the user group. The feedback led to design improvements.
Iteration brought refinements.
Test
A clickable prototype mirroring the designs was used to test the usability of the new UI.
The Outcome: The overhauled and streamlined user experience leads to faster, more accurate applications being processed. This decreases the time-to-decision resulting in faster closing of SBA loans.
The Problem: As the lead designer on the team, I was tasked with creating an experience that brought several products all under one roof that worked for both single agents and large brokerages. After much discovery work, defining the problem sets and requirements, and digging deep on the users I started in on the design processes.
Collaborate on solutions via wireframes
Create design systems & components
Gather feedback using prototypes
The Outcome: Refinements after many iterations, testing sessions, and applying valuable feedback eventually led to the launch of the most successful platform in the real estate tech industry with over 250,000 businesses calling it home. Plus, it maintained a over 30 NPS score for several years.
The Problem: The issue tackled here was how to provide users the ability to easily create presentations to win clients. Also, allowing users to cater presentations to their needs while tapping into the automated processes of the overall platform. Much of discovery phase was figuring out how much freedom to give the user and how much to do for them.
Funnel the user down the desired path
Slide creation and personalization
Tap into map tech for precise results
The Outcome: As the output was fine tuned over time through feedback, testing, and design iterating, the result was an instant hit with clients which upped the bar for this category of product across the real estate tech landscape. It received a 5-star Inman review and much industry acclaim bolstering sales.
The Problem: Translate a primarily postcard driven business to a native app experience that serves up leads and informs users when and where to act. The discovery process and user interviews guided the journey through an iterative phase of creating solutions that were data-driven and innovative in the marketplace.
Funnel the user down the desired path
Slide creation and personalization
Tap into map tech for precise results
The Outcome: The design process was heavily relied upon during several business goals and requirement changes which led to many redesigns with some agile maneuvering and adaptive pivots to get the overall UX to where it needed to be. The product was successfully translated and launched as a mobile app.
I believe in the quest for imperfection... meaning l punt on some endeavors in order to excel at others. I am horrible at video games but can design the crap out a web app. I know my strengths and my weaknesses and I am attempting to grow them both (in the right ways). I believe the best growth in life comes from trying, then failing, then trying again, then failing again until you finally succeed. And you come away better for it.
After 15 years, designing (and parenting) has taught me that learning is a life-long partner if you let it. Also, that details matter and if its too easy you aren’t patiently trying hard enough.
I am a partner, a parent, a learner, and a designer.
“Brandon may be the best product/UX designer I have ever worked with. He is the design mind behind the most successful software platform in the RE tech space. He is insanely fast when he needs to be. He's easy to work with and always feels like he's working with you instead of against you.”
